Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
The Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) is committed to improving education and supporting development of industry in the critical mathematics, engineering, technology, and science (STEM) fields. An increased focus on preparing, attracting, training, and retaining skilled and educated citizens in these fields is critical to Missouri 's future in the competitive global marketplace. To support this goal, MDHE has been and is an active partner in the Missouri Math and Science Coalition.
The Missouri Math and Science Coalition is group of business, education, government and community stakeholders who have come together to foster collaboration to ensure Missouri citizens are equipped with knowledge and skills in mathematics, engineering, technology and science to prosper in a global economy. The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been a strong supporter of the coalition since its inception, and facilitates the coalition. The organization has helped secure more than $4 million in state and private funds to bring into Missouri classrooms cutting-edge technology and professional development provided by eMINTS (Enhancing Missouri’s Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies). The organization has also advocated state policy initiatives, such as streamlining alternative certification for teachers, in order to fill teaching shortfalls in critical areas such as math and science. In addition, the organization has taken great steps in raising public awareness of STEM in our state. For more information, contact Brian Crouse at BCrouse@mochamber.comor by phone at 573-634-3511.
