High School Counselors and Teachers

High school guidance counselors, teachers, and other administrators and mentors play an important role in helping students prepare for college, and the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) has the resources to help you do just that.

College Fairs and Financial Aid Nights

The MDHE offers customized presentations for Missouri high school counselors and other community groups. Let us help you make the most of your college fair or financial aid night for high school students and their families. To arrange for a speaker, complete the MDHE's online speaking/event request form.

Would you like to better promote your event to local students and parents? Add your "Planning and Paying for College" workshop or college fair to the Missouri Association for Student Financial Aid Personnel (MASFAP) Website. It's free!

The MDHE also offers pre-recorded webcasts and other training services.

Free Materials Available For You and Your Students

We also have financial literacy materials available for use by teachers responsible for the 0.5 credit Personal Finance course. These materials follow the curriculum and core competencies from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

FAFSA Frenzy

FAFSA Frenzy, a program of College Goal SundaySM, provides students and their families free professional assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Since 2003, this program has helped more than 7,400 Missouri students file the FAFSA. The event brings together several key professional audiences, including financial aid officers, high school guidance counselors and administrators, YMCA professionals who work with teens, and other college access professionals. High schools and public technical schools are often ideal locations for hosting a FAFSA Frenzy site, and counselors and teachers are encouraged to consider submitting a site application or promoting local sites to students and families.

Questions regarding FAFSA Frenzy may be directed to Lisa Wilson (MDHE outreach services coordinator), or Julie Meyer or Dan Dick (MASFAP Early Awareness Committee 2012 co-chairs).

Note: FAFSA Frenzy is a program of College Goal SundaySM and is offered in Missouri through partnerships between the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) with the Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid Personnel (MASFAP), MOHELA, the Lumina Foundation for Education, and the YMCA. The College Goal SundaySM program was created by the Indiana Student Financial Aid Association (ISFAA), with funding from Lilly Endowment, Inc., and with supplemental support from the Lumina Foundation for Education.
