Coordinating Board for Higher Education Seeks New Commissioner

Jefferson City — The Coordinating Board for Higher Education will begin advertising today for a new commissioner of higher education. Robert B. Stein, current commissioner, announced his retirement in June, effective July 2010.

CBHE chairman Lowell Kruse, St. Joseph, says the board is conducting a national search for a new commissioner. Candidates will be expected to have substantial experience in higher education and appropriate academic credentials.

"The successful candidate will have a high degree of commitment to collaboration among a wide, often diverse group of stakeholders," Kruse says. "We are at a crucial point in the state economically. Higher education can help lead us to a more prosperous future. It will take a commissioner with vision and dedication to helping the entire state achieve a higher rate of college attainment."

The Coordinating Board is the search committee for the next commissioner, with advice and input from a work group composed of college presidents or their representatives and other key higher education constituents. The board will announce their selection in early spring.
