Data Specialist
Missouri Department of Higher Education
Description: Working within the Data and Research Division of the Missouri Department of Higher Education, the incumbent will gain valuable experience in state government, education policy analysis, statistics, data management, and leadership. The department is currently embarking on ground breaking longitudinal data systems (multi-agency, multi-state linked data) which will allow policy makers to evaluate programs and policies for education and workforce outcomes. This is not an information technology position but computer skills are essential. Experience with Microsoft Excel is required. Candidates with experience with SAS or other statistical packages are strongly encouraged to apply. On the job training will be provided as required.
Responsibilities: Provides data processing and analytic support for the departments' initiatives including the collection, formatting, analysis, and graphical presentation of Missouri student data. This position’s primary duty is supporting the organization and management of a broad range of data collected by the department including data on student characteristics, institutional operations, academic performance, and student financial assistance. Major priorities may also include preparing analyses of data and reports to support major initiatives of the department and the Coordinating Board for Higher Education.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree. Excellent written and verbal skills as well as proficiency with Microsoft Excel required. Preference will be given to candidates who have a master's degree in a related field OR at least two years of professional or technical experience in research or data administration. Experience with statistical software packages (such as SAS or SPSS), major database applications (e.g. DB2 or SQL Server), and Microsoft Access is a plus.
Salary range: $28,596 - $33,420
