Spring Internship - 2018

Department of Higher Education



Responsibilities: The intern will assist multiple senior staff members with various projects. Duties may include the following:

  • Attend and take notes during legislative hearings and floor debates

  • Assist with fiscal note responses and the department’s weekly legislative update

  • Assemble materials for department board meetings

  • Prepare records for transport to the Secretary of State’s Office per the department’s record retention schedule

  • Help to make MDHE materials more user-friendly

  • Identify and collect materials relating to student aid in other states or from national organizations

  • Scan the MDHE website in search of outdated information, broken links, and any other problems, document the problems so the Communications office can work to resolve them

  • Update the MDHE media list (newspaper, radio, TV, news websites) that is used to distribute news releases and media advisories

  • Research best practices and help draft personnel policies to maximize engagement

Schedule: Preference is for a full-time internship lasting approximately 20 weeks, though flexible part-time arrangements will be considered.


Qualifications: Substantial progress toward a baccalaureate degree and good written and verbal communication skills required. The position may involve some day travel to attend meetings. 


Compensation: For course credit.
